We've been asking for this feature in Android for years, and Google Chrome is adding it. Here's how to turn it on
Google is adding a new feature to Chrome on Android that has been available to desktop users since the browser first came out: the bookmarks bar. This feature, which is now available on tablets and foldable phones, makes it easier and faster to browse the web on bigger screens.
The bookmarks bar works the same way as the one on your desktop. Located directly below the address bar, it spans the entire width of the screen. This bar displays your saved websites along with their icons and, optionally, the website name. It also allows you to interact directly with your bookmarks' folders, and a long press on any bookmark displays its full URL.
If the number of bookmarks is too large to fit on the screen, an arrow will appear on the right, allowing you to access the remaining items. The main bookmarks button remains the full-screen management button, which provides complete control over the organization of your saved links.
Google designed this update so that the bookmarks bar remains hidden on traditional mobile devices, saving valuable vertical space. On larger devices and in landscape mode, however, the bar significantly improves the browsing experience.
This feature is available with Chrome version 146 for Android. To enable it, go to Settings, then Appearance, then Show bookmarks bar. Thanks to this simple tweak, users can quickly access their favorite sites without interrupting their browsing.
By adding the bookmarks bar, Google Chrome not only matches the desktop experience on larger Android devices, but it also simplifies how users interact with their favorite pages, providing faster and more convenient access to saved content.
