How to set up your router to restart every night while you sleep, and why it's important for increasing internet speed.
If you have an older router, constant use and a large amount of cached data are likely to cause your connection to drop on occasion. This problem can be solved by restarting the router, but doing it manually every day can be tedious. Therefore, this time we'll show you how to schedule a router restart, step by step.
The method may vary slightly depending on the router model; for example, in our case, we used a Mercusys router, but generally, it should be quite similar. Of course, if your router is very old, this option may not be available. However, it's worth trying to ensure a stable and reliable internet speed every day while you wait to purchase a new router.
How to schedule your router to restart itself every day
There are several ways to do this; if you have a router management app on your phone, we recommend starting with that. If you don't have an app, or if the option doesn't appear in your router's app, it's best to go directly to your phone's or computer's browser to see all the available configuration options for your device.
- Enter the router's IP address into your browser; it is usually something like 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1.
- Expand the available options; in this case, you will find the three-line icon in the upper left corner.
- Click on "Advanced".
- Select "System".
- Now, click on "Reboot" to view the reboot options.
- The option to restart will appear immediately, but we are currently interested in the "Reboot Schedule" option, so you will need to click on it.
Enter the time you want to restart your router. We recommend choosing a time when you know no one will be using the internet, such as 4:00 AM.
- Make sure to select "Every day," and that's it.
This will clear cached information, refresh your Wi-Fi data, and restart any programs or devices that had a weak connection. In other words, everything should work again without any problems, theoretically improving your connection.
