GitHub Store is a different store than Google Play... Get the Android app store now that turns GitHub into a free place to find and use open-source apps.

If you enjoy trying out open-source apps on your smartphone, you're probably familiar with the popular GitHub repository. It's the world's largest repository for this type of project, so you can find almost anything you need there. However, there's one small drawback: its interface isn't designed to make it easy to discover or update apps.

It can be hard to switch between versions, find and download APK files, and remember which version you installed. The GitHub Store is now available to everyone, and it completely changes this experience.

- GitHub Store: A library of open-source apps that we all love

Following the launch of the excellent Copilot app for developers, GitHub has now launched a smartphone app store that works just like Google Play but focuses exclusively on open-source projects hosted on GitHub.

Designed specifically for smartphones, this free and open-source app lets you explore popular apps, search for any project by name, and instantly see if it's available for Android. Say goodbye to getting lost in confusing lists or uncategorized versions.

The best part is that the GitHub Store acts as a complete control center. You can view your installed applications, update them with a single click, install previous versions, and even choose between stable and beta versions.

Each project has its own dedicated "store" page, complete with clear download and install buttons, a release history, and a README file that can be translated into multiple languages. Additionally, if you want to stay up-to-date, you can link it to Obtainium to receive instant update notifications.

However, the store still suffers from a few minor issues that will be fixed soon: it doesn't recognize if an app is already installed on your smartphone, and a "Problems" tab opens in your browser. But none of this detracts from an experience that finally makes GitHub a true app store for Android—easy to use, fast, and tailored to your needs.
