A huge scam: Get a kilogram of laundry detergent with the purchase of a 3000-euro graphics card.

A new tech scam surfaced in 2026 after a Reddit user complained that he paid over €3,000 for a Gigabyte GeForce RTX 5090 WindForce OC 32G graphics card only to receive a cleaning product worth less than $2. Even more astonishing was Amazon's alleged refusal to refund the money despite the evidence presented.

A Reddit user posted about this incident, recording the process of opening the package as a precaution. According to their account, while the outer packaging appeared intact, the inner box showed clear signs of tampering: torn seals, physical damage, and a suspicious label.

Upon opening it, the user found a one-kilogram container of cleaning product instead of the expected graphics processing unit (GPU). This detail, along with the overall weight of the shipment—1.56 kilograms compared to the typical 3-kilogram weight of a graphics card of this type—made it clear from the outset that something was wrong.

The buyer claims to have been in contact with Amazon's customer service team, including the executive relations department, for over a week. He asserts that he received promises of investigation and resolution, but these were repeatedly postponed.

Finally, after being warned of legal action, she received an email stating that the company, after careful review, had concluded that the product sent was genuine and refused to issue a refund.

The case also revealed other irregularities. The seller named in the order did not match the name on the invoice, and the document showed a 0% tax rate, while regulations stipulate that this type of product is subject to an 18% tax.

This episode brings back to the forefront the risks associated with buying high-value products in online marketplaces, especially when third-party sellers are involved.
