Google introduces a new feature that ensures you never lose your luggage again when traveling by plane.
Google has improved one of its tools for tracking devices and personal belongings.alence of air travel and the anxiety that baggage issues can cause, the Mountain View-based company decided to enhance its GPS tracking system to provide greater peace of mind and make it easier to recover lost luggage.
The improvements included the "Find Hub" service, which allows users to locate phones, watches, headphones, and tracking devices attached to backpacks, wallets, or suitcases. With the update, users can also share their luggage's location directly with the airline if it gets lost during a flight.
Google explains that the feature works simply. If the bag contains a compatible device or tracker, the user can create a secure link that displays its real-time location. This link can then be sent to the airline via its app or website, allowing its team to locate the luggage as soon as the site is updated. In other words, the search process becomes faster and more accurate.
To launch this feature, Google partnered with ten international airlines, all of which now accept location sharing via Find Hub as part of their baggage handling procedures. These are the airlines:
- Eh, I came
- Lufthansa Group (comprising Lufthansa, Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, and Swiss International Air Lines)
Google has partnered with SITA and Reunitus to integrate this technology into their WorldTracer and NetTracer systems, used for managing lost luggage. Furthermore, new Samsonite suitcases will be able to connect to Google's GPS network without requiring an additional tracking device.
