There is fierce competition among software developers who offer today's leading web browsers. Companies such as Google and Microsoft strive to reach the broadest possible audience with their projects, whether through Edge or Chrome.

It's worth noting that these browsers have become increasingly common on desktop computers and mobile devices. Many users spend a significant amount of time with these applications on their screens, whether for entertainment, information research, or work.

Chrome is currently the undisputed leader in this field, but Microsoft Edge has gained increasing popularity in recent years. This browser comes pre-installed on the latest versions of Windows and is experiencing widespread market penetration.

Although it still lags far behind the powerful Google Chrome, Microsoft is pleased with the results it has achieved in recent months. So much so, in fact, that we are currently seeing many features and tools arrive in this Windows browser before Google Chrome—features that Google Chrome still lacks. In this article, we'll focus on a commonly used feature that you can take advantage of in Edge but which is currently unavailable in Google Chrome.

Specifically, we are referring to the custom screenshot feature that you can use in the Microsoft browser using a simple keyboard shortcut.

Many of you are probably familiar with the Print Screen key, which we've used for years in Windows. This key captures what's on your screen at that moment and transfers it to your clipboard, allowing you to paste the image into a compatible program. Similarly, in the latest versions of Windows, you can use the built-in Snipping Tool by pressing Win + Shift + S.

Okay, we'll explain a useful keyboard shortcut available in Microsoft Edge, but not currently in Chrome, for the same screen capture function. Furthermore, this shortcut doesn't use the operating system clipboard, which can sometimes improve computer security.

This means that if you are using the Microsoft Edge browser and want to take custom screenshots without directly transferring them to the clipboard, you should use the keys Ctrl + Shift + S:

At that moment, a new toolbar will appear at the top of the currently open webpage in the Edge browser, allowing you to take a custom screenshot. You can capture the entire webpage, the area you are viewing, or a specific area you select using your mouse. A key advantage of this tool is that it lets you choose where to save the screenshot, instead of it being automatically saved to the Windows clipboard.

This means we'll be able to save the new image file, perform a smart search for similar items, or add annotations to it. Undoubtedly, this is a tool that will help us overcome many difficult situations when capturing web content using the Microsoft Edge browser.
