Identity data should never be shared, according to a tech expert.
When we go on vacation and rent an apartment or book a hotel room, we are frequently asked to show our ID as proof of identity. This is a common practice, but depending on how it is shared, we can facilitate a variety of transactions for third parties using our identity.
For this reason, technology expert Jose Manuel Alarcon explains to us which DNI data we should not share.
In a video on his YouTube channel, he mentioned that many people carelessly hand over their identities when renting accommodation through apps like Airbnb or when staying in a hotel. This may seem like a harmless act, but in reality, the risk is greater than it appears, so he offers a series of tips to protect your identity.
Among these tips, the expert advises scanning it with your mobile phone and making a series of changes before sending it.
- Make the ID card white and black.
- Hide information such as ID number, CAN code, signature, or photo.
- Keep only the essential information.
- Add a watermark, depending on where it is being sent, so that it cannot be used for any other purpose.
It is true that, due to the current traveler record, any hotel, apartment, or platform may request guest ID and other information for security reasons, but this does not mean they have to provide the ID as is.
It is best to create the above-mentioned modifications for use and adapt them to different procedures. This way, you can prevent your identity from being accessed by unauthorized parties and misused.
