Goodbye to HDMI technology... This technology gives you better picture quality without the need for wires.
It's clear that HDMI cables are among the most commonly used cables for sharing a computer screen with a smart TV, connecting gaming consoles like the PS5, or using an adapter to display what you're doing on your mobile device. However, an alternative is inevitably coming.
Although DisplayPort is more advanced and offers higher quality, the alternative that is likely to be the most common in the future is Wi-Fi Direct.
This technology allows you to share your TV screen wirelessly, and it's more useful than you might imagine, as it doesn't require a router or access point—that's what makes it so special. Isn't that interesting? You may not have heard of it before, but today is the perfect time to explore its potential.
Finding new ways to improve picture and sound quality on a smart TV is something many people should do. Various HDMI standards have long been available, and there are options like 2.1 that allow for 4K resolution over long distances, but this still requires a cable, which can sometimes be cumbersome.
For example, there may be compatibility issues with other devices, problems with connecting ports or connectors, premature damage, or confusion about the type of HDMI cable used.
HDMI is, in itself, a standard format for PCs, gaming consoles, and smart TVs in most homes today. However, it's the most common because people are unaware of other methods that perform the same functions.
There are other ways to share your screen besides screen mirroring, including wireless protocols. Specifically, three of them replace the traditional method:
- WiFi Direct: This allows devices to connect without the need for a router. One device acts as an access point, and other devices connect through it to transfer files or perform concurrent tasks. It is compatible with all devices.
- Miracast: This also doesn't require a router but works as a "wireless HDMI port" by transmitting high-quality video and audio from a device to a smart TV or monitor. It is currently only available on Android and Windows systems.
- AirPlay: This requires that the devices be connected to the same Wi-Fi network and is used to share audio and video between Apple devices.
Miracast is the most popular technology and is seen as a possible alternative to HDMI, but some use it in conjunction with Wi-Fi Direct to take advantage of the feature of connecting devices without the need for a USB port.
This means eliminating the need for cables and routers for sharing screens or transferring large files.
AirPlay is similar to Apple's Miracast, but it requires a router and a connection to the same network as your iPhone, Mac, or Apple TV. In short, these are alternatives that make streaming content easier, and they are likely to become even more popular in the coming years.
