A Chinese woman, age 21, loses her sight after spending eight hours on her phone
The way we live has been altered by technology. We no longer consume television, news, books, television shows, and movies in the same manner as we did a few years ago. Everything has now been reduced to a tiny pocket companion that allows us to gaze at it for hours on end without raising our heads.
There are drawbacks to everything in life, including this. Too much time spent staring at anything too small might lead to headaches, hand pain, or even more serious vision issues like blindness. We are not joking, either.
A 21-year-old Chinese woman went partially blind after playing a popular multiplayer game on her smartphone for a whole day. After losing sight in her right eye, Wu Xiaojing went to the hospital, where she was diagnosed with retinal problems. According to doctors, this type of eye problem is more common in older people and can lead to complete vision loss.
In addition to these physical consequences, Wu Xiaojing’s case goes even further. This woman’s phone addiction has left her unable to put her phone down, even while on a stretcher in the hospital, according to photos posted on the social network Weibo.
According to the patient's testimony, Wu Xiaojing admitted that she played for 8 hours straight, without stopping to eat, drink, or go to the bathroom. Sometimes, she would reduce her sleeping hours so that she could continue playing until the early hours of the morning.
Technologies provide us with hours and hours of entertainment and can be really useful tools, but we must know how to distribute the time we allocate to each activity fairly, to avoid situations like this. There is life much beyond phones and technology so try to stay healthy.
