After Microsoft expressed interest in purchasing TikTok, Bill Gates creates an account
Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates has launched his official TikTok profile, shortly after it was revealed that the tech company was interested in buying the Chinese-made app, according to US President Donald Trump.
While Microsoft has not publicly commented on any business proposal to acquire TikTok in the US, Trump’s response to reporters was clear but without further details, the BBC reported. As a reminder, TikTok has 75 days to avoid being banned in the US again for failing to comply with existing regulations that prevent it from receiving funding from China via ByteDance.
In a recent interview with the Wall Street Journal, Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates said he still spends 15 percent of his time reviewing the company's products, in addition to his charitable activities.
Bill Gates on Tuesday released his first TikTok video to promote his autobiography, Source Code, which will be released on February 4.
However, this seems to have been somewhat ignored, and the comments are going in another direction. Is Microsoft considering buying the Chinese social network? With geopolitical tensions between China and the US and a tight deadline to avoid being banned on US soil, this question has been raised recently.
The fact that this person now has a TikTok account suddenly raised the alarm bells that Donald Trump had already sounded at the time. While the company has yet to comment, it wouldn’t be surprising to think that Gates is testing the app before his company fully invests in it.
Neither Microsoft nor TikTok has commented on the negotiations at this time, so it seems that Trump’s words are still up in the air for now. Moreover, given the current tensions between the US and China, the situation could not be more heated.
