It seems that some AI issues will make older devices incompatible with Google's video app.
To know if your older Xiaomi device is affected, you should know that the YouTube app will stop working on Xiaomi devices running Android 8.0 or later.
This means, for example, if you have Android 7.0 or earlier, forget about it because the app will no longer work for you.

The user shouldn't worry too much, as these devices were released many years ago, but you will likely keep one of them for secondary purposes or when your main phone's battery runs out.
However, Google's decision is not that harsh and negative, because even if you have a Xiaomi device with a version lower than Android 8.0, you will be able to continue watching YouTube by opening YouTube on any compatible browser.
