The new computer switching tool from Microsoft. Transferring data from one computer to another

I’m sure many of you have encountered this: that installing Windows from scratch on a new computer is a rather daunting task. But now Microsoft wants to make this process easier for us, as we will explain below.

The main goal of all this is to make the process of transferring Windows from one computer to another easier and more bearable in most cases. But the situation may change soon.

Microsoft is currently working on a new tool to help with Windows migration. Many of you already know that Windows 11 itself includes a somewhat imperfect backup tool, using the OneDrive cloud storage service to back up some files and system preferences. When setting up on a new PC, we have the ability to restore these backup files and settings a little more quickly.

The main goal of the new tool is to transfer files from one Windows computer to another in a convenient and efficient way. This is the solution that is present in the beta versions of the operating system, although it should be noted that it is not yet functional.

First of all, we will tell you that when we run the tool, two options are presented. One of them allows us to make a backup copy of the computer we are using. On the other hand, we also have the possibility of transferring files to a new computer.

If we focus on the first option, it backs up all our files to OneDrive, Microsoft's cloud storage service. It's not yet clear whether the company is actually referring to all files or, more likely, to a select group chosen by the user.

On the other hand, the second option is to physically transfer files from one computer to another. This is something that only works if both computers are connected to a wireless network or are in close proximity to each other. The process involves pairing the computers and then transferring the files locally. Perhaps the second option we mentioned is the most interesting for transferring an operating system and its applications from one computer to another.

At first glance, the functionality of this new tool from Microsoft may seem somewhat limited, at least at this stage of development. But transferring files between two Windows computers is a good thing and could be useful, although we will have to see how it develops.
