To prevent a collapse, DeepSeek will suspend access to its AI

DeepSeek has announced that it will restrict access to its services. Just weeks away from disrupting the tech industry, the Chinese-made AI model has seen unprecedented demand, forcing it to make a crucial decision. DeepSeek has revealed that it will temporarily stop charging API credits due to server capacity.
According to a Bloomberg report, DeepSeek has temporarily suspended API credit top-ups to avoid further instability in the service. The pause is temporary and will not affect those who have already purchased credits, as they will be able to use them until they run out. DeepSeek did not provide an estimated date for when they will be reactivated.
“Due to current server resource constraints, we have temporarily suspended API service reloads to avoid any potential impact on its operations,” the website states. “You can still use existing credits to make calls. Thank you for your understanding!”
The shutdown comes after DeepSeek announced a historic price cut. While the AI model is free for consumers, those who want to implement it in their apps will have to pay a fee for 1 million tokens. The company offered a 50% discount on chat and reasoning models, which should have boosted demand.
The suspension of credit purchases for DeepSeek indicates that the AI model is very popular. While this may seem like a good thing, it actually sends a message that the company is not scaling its server infrastructure fast enough to meet customer demand.
