Approximately 20 Meta workers will be let go due to the information leak
Meta, the parent company of Facebook, has taken a tougher stance against internal leaks. According to The Verge, Meta will fire 20 employees for leaking information outside the company. The firings come as a result of a recent investigation aimed at curbing the exposure of unauthorized data, Meta spokesman Dave Arnold told US media.
The exact 20 employees who were laid off remain anonymous, at least for now, but the information provided by a Meta spokesperson is that the number of layoffs is expected to increase in the coming weeks. These first 20 dismissals put all employees at the company who have engaged in any kind of behavior that puts confidential information at risk on alert.
Meta’s decision to lay off employees comes as the company has been hit by a wave of leaks that have revealed unannounced product plans and details of internal meetings. Among these incidents is the leak of a meeting chaired by CEO Mark Zuckerberg, where sensitive issues were discussed.
In the wake of these incidents, the company warned its employees of the consequences of sharing confidential information and stepped up efforts to identify those responsible. Meta CTO Andrew Bosworth confirmed in leaked comments that the company is making progress in identifying the leakers.
Meta sent a clear message to its employees by firing about 20 employees for leaking confidential information. The company stressed that such behavior is unacceptable and promised to continue investigating and taking action against those who violate its policies.
