Chromecast devices that have been discontinued are being rolled out by Google. This update is the official remedy

You have probably had some problems in the last few days if you own and use a second-generation Chromecast or Chromecast Audio. To the annoyance of their owners, these models have ceased to function and are now paperweights.

Google published a fix to address the problem and bring functionality back to the impacted devices after several days of issues. Older models, particularly those that had been returned to factory settings, continued to malfunction, so the fix was not totally successful. After much waiting, Google eventually came up with a solution.

Unexpected news surfaced a week ago: an expired verification certificate was the reason why some older Chromecast devices stopped functioning. Millions of devices were rendered useless as a result of this error, which had major repercussions.

A patch has been made available by Google to address the problem in part. Devices that had been factory reset continued to be unresponsive, and not all devices were able to restart. The new solution that Google has now released will be distributed to these users.

Through its support forum, the company declared that the update had successfully reactivated the impacted Chromecast devices. Only devices that are still linked to the same Wi-Fi network that they were originally configured on will have this installed automatically, though.

Connecting the device to your home Wi-Fi network is the first step in the reconnect process. The most recent version of the Google Home app is needed for this. Updates 3.30.1.6 and 3.30.106 for Android and iPhone, respectively, have been released by Google.

Following these procedures, you ought to get the update that resolves the problem and restore everything to its pre-failure state.
