A new feature that Google has released will make it easier for you to locate your loved ones
Google’s plans for Find My Device continue to move forward; in 2024, it was revealed that users will be able to find their devices again even when they are locked. Now it has been revealed that Google is planning to give users the ability to see the real-time location of their friends or family members.
This type of functionality is not new and certainly not exclusive to Google. For several years, iOS users have been able to track the location of their devices and people. This ability is now available on Android thanks to “Find My Device.". Let’s see how this new feature, which is already in the works, works.
Despite the launch of this new feature, Google indicates that it is still a feature in development. In fact, when accessing the “Find My Device” feature on an Android phone, it appears that the function is in beta, and therefore its development is not yet complete.
In the People section, you can choose to share your location, with different options regarding when it will be shared:
- 1 hour
- Today only
- Until you disable this option
- Custom duration
The option to choose to share your location indefinitely is “Until you disable this option.” Once selected, you need to choose who you want to share your location with, and you can do this by name, phone number, or email address.
Of course, you can also share your location via a link that you can copy and paste into apps like Telegram or WhatsApp. After doing all this, the person who receives the link will know where you are at all times. It also works the other way around; if someone sends you the link, you will know where they are.
