Thirteen Samsung phones will continue to receive updates after 2030. Find out if your phone is available
Samsung has made a statement, just like Google and Xiaomi, by expanding update support for its devices, leaving behind, far behind, those criticisms that have been directed at the brand for years for the lack of support for its smartphones.
Now, we're no longer just talking about offering up to 7 years of Android and security updates on its top phones, but this strategy has also been applied to its mid-range and entry-level phones, so it's no longer necessary to pay nearly $1,000 for a smartphone that will last a long time.
A decision that would have seemed unimaginable just a few years ago, it now puts Samsung ahead of most Android manufacturers and on par with Apple's update policy.
- Unprecedented updates for Samsung's budget phones
Traditionally, guaranteed updates for many years have been a privilege reserved for high-end smartphones. But Samsung has abandoned this scheme and decided to apply its new policy even to the Galaxy A series, its affordable series of devices.
Now, base models like the Samsung Galaxy A16 will get up to 6 years of Android and security updates, but it's not the only phone that will get this feature.
- Samsung Galaxy A16: Launched with Android 14, will reach Android 20.
- Samsung Galaxy A26: Launched with Android 15 and will reach Android 21.
- Samsung Galaxy A36: Launched with Android 15 and will reach Android 21.
- Samsung Galaxy A56: Launched with Android 15 and will reach Android 21.
- Up to 7 years of updates for high-end phones
Samsung’s premium lineup, like the Galaxy S and the foldable Galaxy Z, isn’t far behind either. The South Korean company has promised seven years of updates to its flagships, which should see them last well beyond 2030.
- Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra: Launched with Android 14, will receive updates up to Android 21.
- Samsung Galaxy S24+: Launched with Android 14, will receive updates up to Android 21.
- Samsung Galaxy S24: Launched with Android 14, will receive updates up to Android 21.
- Samsung Galaxy S24 FE: Launched with Android 14, will receive updates up to Android 21.
- Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6: Launched with Android 14, will receive updates up to Android 21.
- Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6: Launched with Android 14, will receive updates up to Android 21.
- Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra: Launched with Android 15, will receive updates up to Android 22.
- Samsung Galaxy S25+: Launched with Android 15, will receive updates up to Android 22.
- Samsung Galaxy S25: Launched with Android 15, will receive updates up to Android 22.
With this strategy, Samsung is not only strengthening its position at the top of the Android market, but it is also becoming a more attractive option for those looking for a mobile phone that will last for years. Yes, it is true that the battery may not last as long and the hardware may become outdated before the software, but it is still nice to be able to enjoy a smartphone that has been updated for several years.
