As a result, Sony has ceased producing 8K televisions
TVs made a huge leap towards high resolution at one point, and the change was truly amazing. However, the market now appears to be stagnant, with few products in the 8K segment.
Though it will still release cameras in this resolution, Sony has reportedly confirmed that it is leaving the 8K TV market, at least temporarily. This could surprise some people.
Entering the 8K market could still be difficult because the majority of homes do not yet have 4K TVs.
As evidenced by its action, Sony has decided to keep its newest models—including the 75- and 85-inch Bravia XR Z9K models that were introduced in 2022—on the market until they are sold out.
One of Sony's primary motivations is to leave the market early, though it does not rule out returning in the near future.
Under the Bravia 8 II brand, the Japanese company's most recent televisions feature premium QD-OLED panels with 4K Ultra HD resolution.
With 33.2 million pixels and a resolution of 7680 x 4320, the 8K format provides twice the linear resolution of 4K.
With the release of the PlayStation 5 Pro, which can output 8K video via HDMI 2.1, Sony actually hoped that consumers would be more open to this market.
This kind of TV is superfluous because there is hardly any native 8K content.
As previously stated, Sony still has native 8K cameras, which are perfect for recording video at 7680 x 4320 resolution, even though it has left the 8K TV market.
