Google's Gboard keyboard app will soon include a meme generator driven by AI

Google's keyboard, called Gboard, is included with the majority of Android mobile devices and performs admirably.

You can send any message using its keyboard, including emojis and, soon, custom or AI-generated memes.

If we want to send these kinds of images, the Android Authority team was able to test a meme generator that will soon be part of Gboard under the "Meme Studio" feature, which should make our lives much easier.

There are reportedly two options in this meme generator: a "generate" option that uses artificial intelligence to speed up the process, and a "custom" option that lets you select a base image and write your own captions.

Thousands of stock photos are available for selection through the service, or you can select your own.

Once the image has been chosen, it is integrated into the editor. You can only move, rotate, and resize the text and add subtitles; you are unable to alter the text's font or color.

Once finished, you can share your creation with a contact or save it to your collection.

These preliminary tests, however, show that the AI-based generation feature falls well short, producing far from humorous results—which is what memes are all about.

It appears that mimicking a human sense of humor is still a long way off for artificial intelligence.

Although it is unclear if these "meme generators" will eventually be accessible to all users on Gboard, it is obvious that Google needs to make significant improvements in this area.
