If you do not use your phone for this reason, it will restart itself..Google's latest feature

Many users may now wonder why their Android device restarts when they are not using it. Three days after they were last unlocked, phones running this operating system will automatically restart thanks to a new feature recently introduced by Google.

Now, there is a reason for this reboot. This new security feature guards against password and biometric data theft on your device. We will go over every detail of this new feature below.

According to Google's official blog, the Google Play Services update (version 25.14), which will be made available globally the following week, includes this new security feature. Google has accelerated the release date of this feature, which was initially scheduled for Android 16.

Do not worry, though; if you use your phone every day, it will not reboot. Daily use will not be impacted by this security feature. Only if the phone has not been unlocked for three days in a row will it restart itself. This implies that you deactivate this feature each time you unlock your phone to use it.

What does this process aim to achieve? Your phone enters the "Before First Unlock (BFU)" state as a result. After your device has shut down or rebooted, it enters this state where you must use your PIN or password to unlock it rather than your fingerprint or face recognition.

Passwords and biometric information are now more encrypted and more difficult to hack, making it a more secure state. Your Android phone will now reboot to return to this more secure state if it detects that you have not unlocked (or used) it for longer than three days.

Lastly, it is important to remember that this feature was not created by Google alone. In actuality, it has long been a feature of GrapheneOS, a custom ROM based on Android, and it was just introduced on iPhones running iOS 18.
