In 2025, your computer needs to meet these specifications in order to run Windows 11 without any issues
Slowly but surely, Windows 10's official support is coming to an end. Users who decide to make the logical switch to Windows 11 should bear in mind a few things as the deadline, October 14 of this year, draws near. Microsoft has set several minimum specifications for starting to use the new operating system model.
Compared to earlier iterations of Windows, these requirements are significantly more demanding in your case. A 64-bit processor, 4 GB of RAM, and at least 64 GB of free hard drive space are a few examples. For instance, Windows 10, which needed 20 GB of free hard drive space, is not relevant here. Secure Boot and support for TPM 2.0 are also necessary. Are you certain that your hardware satisfies the requirements? We will describe how.
If you wish to install Windows 11, you must meet more stringent requirements set by Microsoft. The first question that users have is whether the new operating system will work on their computers. In any case, the following specifications are necessary for your computer to run the updated operating system:
Processor: A central processing unit with a speed of 1 GHz or higher. A chip with two or more cores.
- RAM: 4 GB.
- Hard disk: 64 GB or more.
- System Firmware: UEFI, capable of running Secure Boot.
- TPM: Trusted Platform Module (TPM) version 2.0.
Graphics: Must be compatible with DirectX 12 or later with WDDM 2.0 driver.
- Screen resolution: HD (720p) screen larger than 9 inches, 8 bits per color channel.
Regarding the processor, we need to delve deeper into this matter, as not all processors are compatible with Windows 11. In this case, the operating system is compatible with Intel, AMD, and Qualcomm processors.
- Intel: 8th generation and later.
- AMD: Ryzen 2000 and later.
- Qualcomm: Only for Snapdragon X, 850, 7c, 8c, 8cx, SQ1, SQ2, and SQ3 series.
- Check compatibility with your computer
Microsoft offers the PC Health Check app so we can see if our computer meets these requirements. You can download it from the official Microsoft website or the Microsoft Store. This feature will inform you about your computer and its compatibility with Windows 11.
One of the prerequisites is TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot. So, if you want to enable both, you'll need to follow two simple steps.
Press the Win+R key combination, and in the box, type "tpm.msc." Press Enter to go to the next window. If the TPM is enabled, you'll find information about its status there.
If your computer isn't compatible for any reason, you have three options: upgrade your hardware to make it compatible, use another operating system like Linux, or continue using Windows 10 at your own risk.
