After switching from Windows to Linux, the most popular YouTuber, PewDiePie, now urges everyone to do the same.
Any publicity is good for Linux as it seeks to gain dominance in the home operating system market, especially when it comes from PewDiePie, one of the world's most popular content creators with 110 million subscribers on YouTube.
On April 26, PewDiePie uploaded a video to his channel titled "I Installed Linux (And You Should Too)." The video has already garnered over 4 million views, and the release is understandably huge news for the international open source community. The sheer influence that internet personalities can have on their followers is clearly significant, so it's no surprise that Linux downloads will continue to increase in the coming days.
The 22-minute video, which includes plenty of humor, numerous memes, and even demonstrations of his computer, features Felix Kjellberg (real name PewDiePie) giving several reasons why he believes everyone should give Linux a chance, as well as advocating for its use in the gaming community. This is surprising because the gaming drawbacks of Linux-based operating systems are precisely what drive many users away from them, choosing to continue using Windows so they can continue gaming on their PCs.
In response to this narrative, the Swedish YouTuber claims that Linux has improved significantly in this regard and that there are ways to run powerful PC games on Linux.
PewDiePie advocates for Linux as an alternative and celebrates the number of tweaks and customizations users can make with this operating system. He has criticized, for example, the slowness he often experienced with Windows, compared to the speed he achieved on Linux by running simple commands.
He also praised the Linux interface, which he felt was more mature than Windows, and the absence of unnecessary software in Linux, unlike Windows 11 with its many pre-installed apps that we never asked for, especially with the introduction of artificial intelligence features.
