For owners of Android TVs, there is bad news

An increasing number of people are using TVs running Android TV, and as you probably know, it has become one of the most important operating systems on the market. Therefore, it's important to take into account the bad news that has been revealed, which confirms users' worst fears.

The Android TV user community has been waiting for months to update their TVs to the latest version of Google's operating system. However, mysteriously, the update has not arrived. The current version of the system, Android TV 14, was released on May 15, 2024, so we are almost at the year of availability. Meanwhile, there is no sign of Android 15.

The theory was that the launch of Android TV 15 would be a matter of time. Since it became available for mobile and tablet users in October 2024, it was expected to be released on TV screens sooner or later. This meant introducing new features, improvements, and capabilities that would greatly enhance the use of smart TVs. However, as the months passed, we heard nothing at all about Android 15.

Instead, it appears Google will move directly to the Android TV 16 update, skipping version 15. This, of course, means the update is likely to arrive a bit later than expected, with the wait time between Android TV 14 and Android TV 16 potentially reaching over a year. While this isn't an exaggeration, given that Android TV 16 will arrive eventually, it raises suspicions that Google may not have planned its update schedule in the most appropriate way.

One reason could be that Android 16 is coming earlier than expected, so there's no reason to continue using Android TV 15.

However, this could confirm that Google has decided to switch to updating its smart TVs every two years instead of annually. If so, if Android TV 16 arrives in 2025, Android TV 18 likely won't be released until 2027.

This would make sense and make sense, given that smart TVs don't need as many updates and improvements as mobile devices. For Google, this could be a way to more comfortably work on the improvements that TVs with its own operating system will receive.
