Microsoft introduces this free tool for beginners to learn programming from the ground up

Microsoft has introduced Visual Studio Code for Education, a free platform for learning programming without prior experience. The environment is specifically designed for students and educators looking for a practical introduction to languages like Python, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.

The proposal includes complete courses and interactive activities that can be developed from any browser. All you need is a computer or tablet with internet access to get started.

The content is organized into short modules containing exercises, examples, and projects. Everything is focused on learning by doing, without unnecessary technical jargon or intimidating material for beginners.

One of the most popular courses on learning to program with Python. It lasts 19 hours and was developed by Dr. Cory Bart. Through simple examples, it explains variables, conditionals, loops, functions, and the basic structures that allow you to build functional programs.

A web development course using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript is also available. Created by Mary Kiang and Atiyah Conry, this course allows students to design websites from scratch, apply visual styles, and incorporate interactivity.

In addition to courses, the platform offers short activities that combine games and programming. For example, in "Memory Matrix," students build a deck of cards using HTML and CSS. In "Spooky Mansion," they write Python code to explore a haunted house. Each activity has a clear goal and an estimated completion time.

Visual Studio Code for Education adapts the professional editor interface to student levels. This allows you to work in a real development environment without making it too complex for beginners.

Although the content is currently only available in English, Microsoft plans to expand access to more languages. The platform continues to grow, adding new activities every month.

This initiative seeks to expand access to technology education through free, accessible, and high-quality resources. No payment, software download, or prior experience is required. Simply log in, choose a course, and start learning to code.
