Google has stated that on May 20, 2025, NotebookLM for iOS and Android will be released. After 18 months of development, this AI search assistant—which is currently only accessible through web browsers—will be on our mobile devices in time for the opening day of Google I/O 2025, where live demonstrations are sure to be seen.
Although NotebookLM has been around for a while, many users have been requesting that it be moved to mobile devices. The tool has gained significant popularity since its arrival last year, thanks to its ability to deeply analyze documents and videos, and create summaries and podcasts that previously required hours of manual work.
Leaked screenshots show a reorganized interface with top tabs for recent, shared, and downloaded items, maintaining the core of the NotebookLM web version but adapting it to smaller screens. The most interesting feature is the inclusion of a prominent play button for Audio Overviews, podcast-style summaries that convert PDFs to audio content and can now be listened to while using other apps.
For tablets, Google has developed an enhanced multitasking version that allows you to view documents and chat with AI simultaneously. This, combined with the ability to compare up to 50 sources at once, makes NotebookLM an important tool for researchers and journalists who need to quickly verify data using automatic citations.
One point Google was keen to highlight is that the uploaded data will not be used to train its AI models, a commitment to privacy that many appreciate, especially in sectors like law or medicine where confidentiality is paramount.
You can now pre-register on the Google Play Store to be among the first to try the app. The beta version will be limited at first, but it's expected to be available to everyone in the third quarter of 2025, and Arabic will be supported from day one.
