The amount of electricity used by constantly leaving your phone charger plugged in, as well as the reasons why you shouldn't
Even if your phone isn't charging, you might be worried that leaving your charger plugged in will result in it using a lot of power. Will it raise your bill noticeably each month if you leave it plugged in, and is that a problem? We'll let you know.
Charger power consumption when not in use
As previously stated, we typically leave the charger plugged in while charging our phones at night and unplugging them when we wake up in the morning. The first thing to remember is that the battery of our cell phones does not recharge overnight when we charge them at night. In order to prevent battery degradation, modern smartphones and chargers are intelligent enough to halt charging when the phone's battery is fully charged.
In the event that we do not turn it off, what will the cost be? According to FACUA, the Phantom uses very little power when plugged in without a smartphone or other device (such as a tablet, headphones, smartwatch, etc.) connected. However, this depends on the charger itself. Leaving a charger plugged in all day would result in 1,168 kWh every 12 months, as the average consumption of a charger without a mobile phone connected is approximately 0.0002 kWh, according to the consumption data gathered. This would essentially only be a few cents for every dollar annually.
Therefore, if power consumption is a concern for you, don't worry about it. The charger shouldn't be a factor on your bill because there are other devices that use a lot more power.
Additional dangers
However, this isn't the only issue we find here; you won't have to pay an additional penny annually to keep it plugged in. You shouldn't leave it plugged in for a few reasons. First and foremost, there is a significant chance that it will overheat and raise the possibility of a fire. Because these cables can cause issues, it becomes even riskier when the charger is near the bed and comes into contact with pillows, blankets, or sheets.
It can also endanger the animals we live with or the people in our immediate vicinity. Power cords should never be hung near children or pets because they can injure them in a variety of ways. As a result, when not in use, unplug the charger from the power source.
Though less significant or dangerous, it's still important to keep in mind that the charger's continuous power connection could eventually cause it to malfunction. This should also be considered, even though it is far less serious than the previous points.
