If you have a Hotmail account, you may now lose your email
If you've been using the internet for 20 years or more, you likely had (or still have) a Hotmail email account. It's gone since Outlook became it, but that doesn't mean those addresses are gone. I still have an account, although I only use it for a few platforms that I'm still connected to. However, there are issues that can cause these accounts to be blocked and inaccessible.
On Reddit, one of the world's most popular internet forums, several users posted messages claiming their Hotmail accounts had been banned. The sheer number of messages suggests this is not an isolated incident. Furthermore, the technology website TechSpot reported that Mike Kagansky, a LibreOffice developer, found his Hotmail account banned while trying to send an email.
But what exactly is going on? In Mike Kagansky's case, Microsoft informed him that he had violated its service policies, though it didn't explain anything further and didn't give him an opportunity to complain. To contact technical support, he had to log in, which he couldn't do.
In other cases, when viewing Reddit posts, your account is banned after entering an incorrect password or due to suspicious activity, especially when connecting from an IP address in another country. This is not uncommon, but it's usually a temporary precaution to prevent intruders, and it's not permanent.
We've been seeing similar messages on Reddit for months. Some people are experiencing endless loops of 404 errors and are unable to access the page. This usually happens, as we mentioned, due to entering an incorrect password. In this case, there's nothing you can do because the recovery system isn't working properly.
All of this shows that Hotmail is not currently a priority for Microsoft. It doesn't have the resources to ensure the service continues smoothly and therefore doesn't respond adequately to any problems that may arise. There are many email alternatives available these days.
- What to do to avoid problems
If you have a Hotmail account, we recommend, as a precaution, backing up your important emails (simply forwarding them to another account). We also recommend moving any associated platforms to another email provider, in case of any issues that could result in your account being blocked.
In short, if you have an active Hotmail account, especially if you don't log in frequently, be careful because it can get locked, and it's very difficult to recover if you forget your password.
