It's now easier to avoid scams on WhatsApp. Activate the new anti-scam system
If you've been using WhatsApp for years, you may have been the victim of a scam. Because it's the world's most popular messaging platform, it's only natural that it's also one of the most targeted by scammers.
Fortunately, WhatsApp has been taking steps to prevent scams for years, such as enabling a forwarded message alert to detect malicious campaigns or the option to block an unknown contact when you receive a message.
They recently launched two new anti-fraud tools, enhancing the app's security. Below, we'll explain everything about WhatsApp's improved anti-fraud system.
In a statement, Meta revealed new security features coming to its messaging app to help you avoid scams on WhatsApp. These two alerts work as follows:
- Scam warnings in group chats : When you're added to a WhatsApp group by someone not in your contacts list, a pop-up window will appear with basic information about the group and safety tips to help you determine whether it's a scam. Additionally, from this window, you can leave the group or choose to view the messages for more information.
- Alert potential scammers in one-on-one conversations : When you receive a message from an unknown contact, WhatsApp displays a warning about that person, providing information about their online behavior. This is because many scammers often first contact you via text message, dating apps, or social media before targeting WhatsApp with scams.
How do you activate these anti-fraud features? Well, you don't have to do much. These new security features will be available to all users and will be enabled by default with an update to be released in the coming days. Just keep an eye on WhatsApp updates to receive them as soon as possible.
