By 2026, only this will be altered with regard to Android backups.

Google is getting ready to enhance Android backups, which will soon be accessible and include backups of individual app settings and the downloads folder.king to enhance Android's backup system, and recent Google Play service beta versions have shown updates that will be accessible shortly.

Among the improvements under development are backups of the downloads folder and a reorganization of backup settings for each application.

According to the latest findings published by Android Authority , Google has added further clarification regarding how the Downloads folder will work. Android will allow a copy of downloaded files to be saved in the cloud, but any changes made to these files later will not be automatically synced to Google Drive, either from the device itself or from the stored backup.

This behavior makes sense, as many users edit documents directly in cloud storage services like Google Drive, rather than working on local files. Furthermore, the interface will display a summary of used space and shortcuts to files stored in Google Drive, making them easier to manage.

Another new feature affects app backup settings. Google has added a new warning that appears when a user disables backups for a specific app. This message informs users that disabling this option will delete the existing backup for that app, something that happened previously but is now made more explicit for clarity.

A visual separation between user applications and system applications was also observed within the backup list, although this separation is still under development.

Currently, none of these features are publicly available, and Google continues to refine the design details and usability. However, all indications suggest that these improvements will be rolled out sometime next year, reinforcing one of Android's core pillars: protecting and recovering user data.
