Elon Musk raises concerns about Tesla's new electric car: "If safety is your top priority, don't buy it."
Elon Musk is once again at the center of controversy with new statements about the highly anticipated Tesla Roadster, and not with a message that satisfies everyone.
In his recent remarks, Musk explicitly advised against purchasing the Tesla Roadster for those who prioritize safety. This unusual advice aligns with the CEO's philosophy regarding this electric sports car.
During his appearance on the Moonshots podcast, Musk was very clear about the new model's focus. He explained that safety isn't the primary goal of the Roadster, just as it isn't for those who typically buy high-performance sports cars. He bluntly stated, "If safety is your top priority, don't buy a Roadster."
Amid the uproar, Musk softened his tone somewhat, without retracting his statement. He affirmed that Tesla does not intend to manufacture a dangerous car but clarified that it is not a car designed with safety as its primary priority. He added, in his characteristically sarcastic tone, "Let's aim to not cause anyone's death in this car."
Furthermore, he defended the Tesla Roadster, describing it as "the best modern car driven by humans," a statement consistent with his vision of a future dominated by autonomous driving.
These statements come against the backdrop of Musk's history of failing to deliver on his promises regarding self-driving cars. Nevertheless, the executive insists that the Tesla Roadster will be a fitting conclusion to his era of not-fully-driving vehicles: an exceptional car, designed for pure driving pleasure.
The Tesla Roadster is, in fact, one of the company's most delayed projects. Tesla began taking reservations in 2017, but nearly a decade later, the car has yet to reach the market. Musk also promised a demo last November before the end of the year, a promise that ultimately did not materialize.
He now claims that the official unveiling of the Tesla Roadster will take place on April 1st. However, given that this coincides with April Fools' Day, many are questioning the validity of this date, wondering if it is simply a false promise.
