Google's Veo 3.1 now lets you create videos for TikTok, YouTube, and Instagram from just one image... Here's how to try it
Google has released an update to its Veo video template. This update helps create high-quality, creative videos using "composite images," specifically designed for mobile devices. But what exactly does Veo 3.1 offer?
The Mountain View-based company announced on its official blog that the key improvement in Veo 3.1 is the "Video Components" feature, which allows users to create videos from reference images. This results in a more expressive and creative final product, even with simple instructions. Other features include native vertical output for improved mobile-friendly video creation, as well as next-generation upscaling to 1080p and 4K resolutions for high-quality video production.
With the new update, users can transform photos into dynamic and engaging videos based on imagery. They can also maintain the same appearance for created characters even when the story's setting changes, control the integrity of the environment and objects, and even replace disparate elements—such as characters, objects, textures, and stylized backgrounds—into a cohesive video.
On the other hand, thanks to the new capabilities of Veo 3.1, Google has launched improved mobile output along with professional-quality options. For the first time, the "Video Components" feature lets you create videos with a native 9:16 aspect ratio, ideal for TikTok, YouTube Shorts, and Instagram, and you can even create videos in 1080p and 4K resolution.
Veo version 3.1 is now available for testing on YouTube Shorts and the YouTube Create app. Users can also try Veo 3.1's enhanced features, such as "Video Components" and "Portrait Mode," on the Gemini app starting today.
