Gameschooling is not a new concept for me, but I have not used it much in our home education until lately. In the past, we had newborns and toddlers in the house, so bringing out games with little parts seemed pointless. Also, with toddlers, it seemed hard to sit down and accomplish much of anything orderly with the older children (while the smaller ones were excluded). Finally, we haven't had the physical capacity to hold a large number of games in our most recent living arrangements.
We turned a corner when my elder children were between the ages of 9 and 10. The bigger children could play games alone, while the smaller ones did not consume or ruin anything. In a nutshell, we've entered the gaming period, and I'm quite pleased about it!
A few years back, around the holiday season, I began studying and collecting educational video games. Between my homeschool mother friends, blogs, reviews, and personal experience, I compiled a master list of instructive card and board games that we like or are striving to gather. Here's my list, along with a description of each game, so you can choose which ones to add to yours.
I've discovered that "gameschooling" is an excellent method to supplement our normal homeschool studies—and occasionally replace formal schooling when we need a vacation or a change of pace. It's also an excellent method for getting beyond a stumbling block in learning anything specific that a youngster is dealing with.

I use games to bring math to life and show my students how it can be utilized in real-world situations while still having fun! These alternatives teach youngsters arithmetic principles including counting, addition, subtraction, division, numerical order, and even pre-algebra!
