Google launches an interactive map to show flood risks in your area Northern Morocco is currently at risk.
Google has launched a pilot map that makes it easier to identify areas at risk of flooding around the world. Morocco has been experiencing heavy rainfall for several weeks, and given the storm warnings for February, this tool could prove invaluable. It allows users to understand why some areas are more vulnerable than others.
The map is easy to use and clear, showing how the risk increases when the land is unable to absorb larger volumes of water, as rivers, streams, and low-lying areas may overflow in such cases. In other words, it makes it easier to identify the areas most vulnerable to flash floods.
Simply click the link below, and a world map will appear with a panel on the right side of the screen. From there, you can enable or disable different layers of information, noting that the areas most at risk of flash floods are already displayed.
You can zoom in on any location, and there's also an option to activate a hybrid view that combines the map and satellite imagery for a better view of the terrain. When you zoom in on a specific area, colored dots appear to indicate the flood risk level at that location.
Clicking on one of these points opens a window with more details on the left side, explaining how the risks have evolved and the source of the data used. Please remember that this is a trial tool and does not replace official services, although it is useful for obtaining information. In the sidebar, you will find several colors, each indicating a level of risk; red indicates the highest risk, and the lower the level, the lower the risk.
