Google launches a new and mysterious app on the Google Play Store

A leaked image of a modified Android interface for computers recently surfaced. Now, Google has taken another step, seemingly paving the way for an app called Desktop Camera, which recently appeared on the Google Play Store. While it's too early to say for sure, all indications point to it being designed for the Android-powered desktops that Google promised to release later this year.

What we know about Google's Desktop Camera app: The app, which was uploaded to the store last week, has a simple and straightforward description: "Never miss a moment with Desktop Camera." It also features a clean and minimalist design: a capture button, a switch to toggle between photos and videos, and some settings on the side. The app looks very similar to the Pixel phone's camera, but it's much simpler and designed specifically for larger screens.

Now we come to the interesting part: what kind of device will it be used on? The most logical choice is the long-awaited Android PC. However, looking at the app's interface, we notice that it closely resembles ChromeOS, with an app drawer and quick controls at the bottom, just like on Chromebooks.

But some details point to something new: for example, the file manager we saw in previous leaks is missing, and neither is the status bar. This might be an updated version of the desktop interface that Google is developing.

Currently, the app isn't compatible with most popular devices: Android phones, tablets, and Chromebooks don't appear in the Google Play Store's options. Yet, surprisingly, it has already surpassed 1,000 downloads. Is this a perplexing mystery? Absolutely. But all indications suggest that Google is continuing with its plan to fully integrate Android into computers under the name  Aluminium OS , and the desktop camera app may be a key part of that plan.
