How to determine how many charge cycles your phone battery has, why it is important to know its condition, and whether it should be replaced.
Android gives us a lot of information about the state of our phone's battery: how long the screen has been on, which apps and components use the most power, and when it was last fully charged... However, unlike other operating systems and platforms, Android makes it difficult to determine how healthy the battery is, which is especially useful in devices that are a little more than a year old, to see if our usage habits are damaging the battery and if it is time to replace it.
Data such as battery capacity loss over time or the number of charge cycles completed since the phone's launch are easier to see on operating systems like iOS or macOS.. This latter data is especially important, and today we'll see how to check it on Android, despite the fact that the system does not provide this feature.
To measure charge cycles on an Android phone, you must use third-party apps or tools. In this case, we chose Charge Cycle Battery Status, a free app that automatically monitors charge cycles.
Using this app is simple; simply download it from the Google Play Store and grant it the necessary permissions. The next time you plug in or unplug the charger and complete a full charge cycle, an indicator will appear on your home screen. A graph estimating the number of remaining battery cycles is also displayed, as well as other interesting statistics to assist you in monitoring the battery health of your device.
Unfortunately, the app can only measure charging cycles from the moment it's installed on the phone, and the phone must be turned on when the charger is connected or disconnected. Therefore, it's best to start using the app from the first day you buy your phone.
We don't know if Google intends to offer battery charge cycle measurement for Android devices in the future, but it would undoubtedly be an interesting feature for determining when to replace the battery.
