This trick ensures that your phone is one of the first to be updated without anyone knowing.

You might not know, but there's a trick, confirmed by brands like Xiaomi, to be among the first to update your phone to a new software version. This trick involves manually checking for updates, as companies like Samsung, Google, Honor, Oppo (and others) often release their new versions on a first-come, first-served basis. Literally, whoever checks for available updates is the first to get One UI 8.5, HyperOS 3, or Android 17.

This trick doesn't require much effort. Simply go to the "System Update" section in your phone's settings every now and then and tap the "Check for updates" button. However, you might sometimes forget to do this or simply be lazy, missing the chance to update your phone before everyone else. But what if I told you there's a trick to be faster than everyone else?

This option takes only two seconds to set up and then lets you instantly check for new updates for your phone. The secret is adding a shortcut to your home screen that automatically checks for software updates, whether it's for One UI, Android 17, HyperOS, or other versions.

How to be the first to update your mobile phone

To activate this trick that allows you to update your phone before anyone else, follow these steps. First, you can create a shortcut for update options. But if you prefer, you can also set up a shortcut that automatically checks for new updates.

- To activate the shortcut, go to your home screen and press and hold until the tools menu appears.

- Select the settings widget and drag it to your home screen.

A new menu will open containing options; select "System."

- Now, every time you click on this tool, you will go directly to the "System" section, and you will find the "Check for software updates" option.

To enable automatic update checks on your phone, first download the Shortcut Maker app or a similar application. From the home screen, select "Settings" and then tap "Activity settings." Finally, in the search bar, type "update" and tap the "Settings" option, which will contain the following description:

google.android.settings.update.SoftwareUpdateActivity

Now, simply edit the name and save it to your home screen. Tapping the icon will automatically check for updates.
