Android might finally let you use different ringtones for each SIM card.

Android may be getting ready to add one of those small but highly anticipated features for dual-SIM phone users: the ability to set a different ringtone for each SIM card.

This option hasn't been part of the main Android system until now, but some companies, like Motorola, do include it in their own interfaces. But official support for native system-level features is not yet available.

Evidence of this can be found in Android Canary build 2604 , where clues were discovered indicating internal work related to this feature. Specifically, code snippets appear that directly point to the possibility of assigning a specific ringtone to each SIM card, suggesting that Google is conducting research on how to implement it.

Although this version lacks a visible interface or functional features, the source code clearly states the objective: to allow each phone line to have its own unique ringtone. This includes both physical SIM cards and eSIMs.

However, no confirmed release date has been set yet. It's even unclear whether this feature will be included in a future stable release of the system, although some estimates suggest it might be part of upcoming major updates like Android 17.

Interest in this improvement is not new. Dual SIM mobile phone users have been demanding better line management for years, especially in basic aspects such as notification customization, something that has so far depended on each manufacturer.
