How to install Windows 11 25H2 unsupported computer without formatting step-by-step
Since its release Microsoft has been trying to get most users to put the latest version of Windows 11 on their devices (version 25H2). But some users may face serious hardware-related problems.
Due to their components, some computers are not compatible with the latest version of Windows 11. However, it is important to know that it is now possible to update incompatible computers to Windows 11 25H2, as we will explain later.
To do this, we simply need to use the new enablement package provided by Microsoft. This package will allow us to update computers with incompatible hardware, as long as they are already running version 24H2. Furthermore, all of this can be done without the need for reinstallation or the use of third-party tools.
What is the Windows Enable Pack?
Typically, installing a new version of Windows 11 on a computer with unsupported specifications requires a clean install to bypass these requirements. Third-party software can also be used to force the update. However, in this case, the update is performed using an enablement package that functions as a regular cumulative update.
All we have to do is download and manually install this package, and the unsupported Windows 11 version 24H2 PC will be updated to 25H2 without the need for a full reinstall.
When we talk about a Windows 11 enablement package, we mean a small, quick-to-install update. It typically acts as a master key to upgrade a computer from one version to another, provided both versions share the same underlying operating system, as is the case with versions 25H2 and 24H2.
For this reason, by using a software component of this type, we can now upgrade from Windows 11 24H2 to 25H2 without reinstalling.
Upgrade to Windows 11 25H2 if your computer is incompatible.
The first step to achieving what we are explaining is to access the Windows 11 settings application, for example, using the keyboard shortcut Win + I. In the window that appears, specifically in the left panel, we click on the "Windows Update" section.
Next, click the "Check for updates" button that appears on the screen. Windows 11 will then search for and install the latest updates released by Microsoft. Restart your computer to apply these updates, and you will be able to download the necessary activation package, KB5054156.
It should be noted that you can also download it manually from this link in the official Microsoft catalog.
After downloading the file locally to your computer's hard drive, double-click the .msu file to run the KB5054156 activation package installer mentioned earlier. Confirm the update in the installation wizard, and once the steps are complete, your computer will automatically update to Windows 11 25H2.
It is very important to understand that this process only applies to computers with version 24H2 installed. This means that if your computer has version 23H2, an earlier version, or Windows 10 installed, you will not be able to use this activation package. In this case, you will need to perform a clean install.
Even better, as mentioned earlier, the downloaded package simplifies the upgrade from Windows 11 24H2 to version 25H2, even for systems with incompatible hardware. This transforms what was previously a complex process requiring a clean install or third-party tools into a standard upgrade.
