All users who still have an account will lose their SwiftKey accounts in the next few weeks.y 31, when the company will remove these accounts, so all users are advised to switch to Microsoft accounts to keep their data safe.
Users currently using Apple or Google accounts with SwiftKey are urged to link their Microsoft accounts before the deadline. Otherwise, all information stored in the cloud, including custom dictionaries and writing templates, will be permanently deleted.
Linking your Microsoft account will enable you to back up your data to OneDrive, allowing you to access it from any device, as well as enhancing security and protecting privacy.
Microsoft will also give you 1000 Microsoft Rewards points upon completion of the transfer.
It's worth noting that if a user ignores this update, they can still use SwiftKey on their device, but with some limitations. This means that data will not be synced between devices and will only be stored locally. Microsoft is also giving users until May 31st to download their data if they wish to keep it before it is permanently deleted.
SwiftKey has been owned by Microsoft since February 2016 and has experienced fluctuations over the past decade. In 2022, Microsoft decided to remove the iOS version, but later relaunched it in response to user demand.
Since then, development of new features has been minimal, but the company now asserts that the move to Microsoft accounts will allow for a more secure and centralized experience of backing up and syncing data.
