An OpenAI study, on the other hand, looked at over 40 million ChatGPT interactions over a month. In the meantime, 1,000 users of ChatGPT were observed by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology for 28 days.
The MIT study examined a number of usability elements that may affect how users feel when interacting with a chatbot.
Researchers found that participants were less likely to experience negative emotional reactions when speaking in a neutral tone in ChatGPT's voice mode. They found that having in-person ChatGPT conversations was associated with a higher risk of loneliness.
It is interesting to note that people who used the chatbot to text about general subjects became more emotionally dependent.
The issue is that while some participants already had a strong emotional bond with ChatGPT, others said they saw it as a friend. These people were more likely to feel emotionally reliant on the chatbot and lonely.
Nonetheless, OpenAI clarified in its research that emotional ChatGPT interactions were typically extremely uncommon.
Low emotional reactions to the interaction were observed even among the most frequent users of chatbots, who employed sophisticated features like voice mode.
OpenAI came to the conclusion that it aimed to comprehend the potential difficulties posed by its technology through these investigations.
