The Trump administration puts more pressure on Google to sell Chrome because it has a monopoly

The US Department of Justice has confirmed in recent hours that Google must sell its Chrome browser to promote competition in the online browser environment, thus following the same path taken by the judicial decision in August of last year, which declared Google guilty of monopolistic practices.

According to a recent report by the Washington Post, the Justice Department has filed its request in a federal court in Washington, D.C., repeating a proposal made last November to break up the company, starting with the sale of the browser.

Through this step, the US Department of Justice seeks to encourage competition in the browser and Internet search market, thus paving the way for new competitors.

These latest intentions are in line with those of the Justice Department under former President Joe Biden and mean that the antitrust division under Donald Trump is also taking Google very seriously.

It is worth noting that in August of last year, a federal judge ruled that Google violated antitrust law in connection with Internet search engines.

Now we have to wait until District of Columbia Judge Amit Mehta decides in April what steps the tech giant will have to take if it eventually has to sell that arm of the business.

There is no doubt that Google has some of the most popular services on the Internet, not only in search engines but also in browsers, and also in other services such as email and much more.
