Google Maps Problems. A Bug Causes Users to Lose Years of Location History
Last year, Google announced a change that would affect location history in Google Maps, where it would no longer be stored in the cloud but instead saved directly to users' devices, with a deadline of June 9.
This issue may have caused a recent glitch that affected many people, where a user's Google Maps timeline history disappeared completely.
As reported on sites like Reddit, when you open the Google Maps timeline, a message appears saying “No visits for today,” but this happens on every date ever, and some users have even lost their timeline for the past ten years.
Google has not commented on the issue, but this failure may be related to the reported migration of location history from the cloud to the device.
Google announced weeks ago that if users don't want to lose all of their Google Maps location data from the past few years, they have until June 9 to transfer their location history to their devices.
It is not yet clear whether this is a display error, which is supposed to be resolved within the next few hours, or something more serious and whether all this data was permanently deleted due to a technical error.
There is no solution to this problem, but you can try different procedures to try to recover your location history on Google Maps.
First, you should check that Location History is enabled in the Navigation app settings. Then restart your device and check if your timeline data appears.
If this issue is not resolved, you will have no choice but to wait for a statement from Google within the next few hours.
