This is the antivirus you should never install on Windows

2025 doesn’t look like a good year for computer security. Hackers increasingly have larger attack networks, and they’ve started relying on artificial intelligence to carry out their attacks. So, it’s now more important than ever to install a good antivirus on Windows to help us stay safe and protected from all these threats. But choosing the wrong antivirus can do the opposite: take us straight into the clutches of hackers.

It is impossible to test all the antivirus programs available on the market ourselves to see which ones protect us properly or which ones leave us vulnerable to computer threats. Fortunately, there are independent organizations specifically dedicated to testing the major antivirus programs on the market to see whether or not they are able to protect us from all types of threats.

AV-Test is one of the main platforms dedicated to this purpose. To do this, its administrators test all antivirus products on the market one by one, under identical conditions, and face them with all kinds of tests to see how well they defend against zero-day threats, viruses, and dangerous malware.

Bkav is the only one who stopped the tests

Bkav is a promising and little-known antivirus that has hit the market as a leading security software that uses artificial intelligence to protect us from network threats. This antivirus claims to use artificial intelligence to analyze all the data that reaches the computer and make sure it is trustworthy, or if it is not, it blocks the threat before it runs on the computer.

This security software promises multi-layered protection that helps us protect our network, operating system and data, protecting us from common malware, ransomware, mining software, keyloggers, adware and much more. But is it really safe?

Whether because it’s a relatively new antivirus or because its AI isn’t doing its job well, it was the only one to fail AV-Test’s latest security tests. Specifically, this security software scored 3 out of 5 for security and ease of use, which is a worrying fact. If we dig into the details, we can see that Bkav detected only 88.5% of threats (while other antiviruses average over 97.5%) and had 5 times more false positives than its competitors.

Therefore, Bkav is an antivirus that does not protect our computer, and you should avoid it, although we will follow it closely as its results have improved significantly compared to the previous month. The other programs in the image below are not recommended, as they did not receive 6 points.

- What antivirus software should I use?

If you are really looking for protection from hackers and viruses, then we should bet on one of the programs that passed AV-Test tests perfectly and received the "TOP Product" award from this company.

For example, two excellent free antiviruses are Avast Free and Microsoft Defender, two security programs that passed all tests with excellent marks and that we can use without paying a single dollar. And if what we are looking for is a complete security suite, excellent alternatives with great protection are also Kaspersky, McAfee, and Bitdefender.
