Xbox player accidentally loses his account and nearly $40,000 in games

There may be some debate about whether it's better to bet on traditional physical games or digital games, but if you're one of the latter, you might think twice when you hear the following story.

An Xbox user, who had spent over $40,000 on 600 games over the past 18 years, was about to lose them all altogether.

Recently, a Reddit user shared some disastrous news that happened to him: he was unfairly lost access to his game library due to an alleged rule violation.

What basically happened is that during a Black Ops 1 multiplayer game, one of these random players who were paired used an illegal mod that unlocked all achievements for all users present.

What happened was that the next day, a user who had nothing to do with this, since the mod was activated by a stranger in a random pairing, saw how he no longer had access to his game library that took him nearly 20 years to build.

"This is what happened: One night I was playing Black Ops 1 and a stranger in the room used an edit menu that unlocked achievements for everyone. I didn't do anything, but the next day I got a message saying I was banned for violating community guidelines. I'd been playing Xbox for years with a perfect account: no violations, nothing. But Microsoft is punishing me for something I didn't even do."

The first thing the user did when they discovered they had been banned was to file an appeal. They apparently tried contacting Microsoft itself, but no direct contact options for technical support were found anywhere.

However, after trying everything, a few hours later, the user explained that he was finally able to regain access to his library, and the ban imposed by Microsoft was lifted.

This ended in a happy story, but it also created doubts for those users who were building a digital library of games, which they might end up losing completely in the future due to some misunderstanding.
