How to determine whether your iPhone or Android battery needs to be replaced

Despite being one of the most crucial parts of a phone, the battery is also one of the parts that is most prone to damage from use. The battery's capacity is impacted by this degradation, which starts to manifest after specific charging cycles.

Our phone batteries typically have between 2,000 and 3,000 charging cycles; after this, the battery should not be able to handle any more cycles and should be essentially useless.

After roughly 500 charging cycles, battery wear usually starts to show its effects. In order to survive the day, a phone that is only charged once a day will now need to be plugged in at least twice.

It is not always necessary to replace a battery just because you notice a drop in its capacity or lifespan. Actually, it is only advised to replace the battery if it is damaged or if its capacity has already drastically decreased. The decision to replace their battery with a new one is up to the individual user, though.

How can you tell when a battery needs to be changed?

Android and iPhone follow different procedures because each iPhone has a built-in tool that lets users check the battery level.

To see an estimate of the battery's capacity in comparison to when it was brand-new, navigate to Settings > Battery > Health on iPhones. After almost a year of use, the battery capacity in the example below has dropped by just 3%.

The bottom section labeled "Capacity," which clearly states whether or not a battery replacement is advised, is another crucial piece of information. For instance, if it reads "Below normal performance capacity," you should get the replacement done at an Apple Store or through authorized technical support.

When it comes to Android, things are different because some manufacturers, like Samsung, send out notifications to users when they notice battery degradation. However, for other manufacturers, installing a third-party app can give you a more accurate picture of the battery's state.

The app we recommend is CPU-Z, which you can download for free from the Google Play Store .

The "Battery" tab allows you to verify the accuracy of the measurements that CPU-Z makes on the various parts of your phone. If the outcome is not "Bad," there is nothing you need to change.

The battery should only be changed right away if you find a flaw in it, as this could result in an instantaneous explosion.
