The US Army is offering you this unique iPhone. It doesn't even have a single camera, and you can't buy it.
Would you buy an iPhone without a rear camera? Even if you wanted to, it would be difficult. You may not have known, but there's a branch of companies that specializes in making truly exceptional iPhones.
The goal isn't to cover them in gold to make them more exclusive or expensive, but to sell them to governments and companies where privacy is paramount. In fact, one of the most notable cases is the cell phones distributed to some members of the US military.
This government department doesn't purchase iPhones from the Apple Store but rather relies on third-party companies to modify them. One of the most requested changes is the removal of all cameras from the device. Yes, you read that right: The US military is paying more for an iPhone that has lost its ability to take photos.
But beware: this isn't a software modification. These companies, like noncam.com, buy directly from Apple and implement a series of changes requested by specific companies or governments. The most common, as mentioned, is the removal of both the rear and front cameras.
The reason? You obviously have an iPhone that doesn't take pictures of anything around it. In the case of Nuncam, they remove the back glass and the entire camera module and replace it with glass that covers the entire back area with no protrusion. This video has been going viral in recent days.

because in the US they give you an iPhone without a camera if you work in sensitive areas in the military. pic.twitter.com/wL6oksL4dL
In this way, some sensitive areas of the US military ensure that smartphones can be used in certain areas, but without the ability to take or share photos. Without the physical equipment necessary to capture images, no one can leak them using this device.
In fact, the video shows that the software is intact and that the system still allows you to change the flash intensity even when it's not available. Although this isn't shown in the short image, it's also possible that this iPhone lacks the internal front-facing camera module for Face ID.
- How much does one of these modified phones cost?
Well, as a user, you may not be able to purchase the product unless you order in large quantities. These companies often work for large corporations or global governments, so the minimum order will likely be dozens of modified iPhones.
However, noncam.com lists some prices, although they seem a bit outdated.
- iPhone 8 without cameras: between $1,280 and $1,380
- iPhone SE 2020 without cameras: between $1,380 and $1,530
- iPhone SE 2022 without cameras: between $1,530 and $1,680
These modifications not only eliminate a vital component for any user but also raise its price to exorbitant levels. Currently, you can buy an iPhone SE 2022 for around €200 on the secondhand market, but NonCam pushes the price much higher.
Not just because of the removal of parts: in this type of modification, the company itself bears primary responsibility, ensuring that the iPhones are not modified with software. By paying this additional cost, governments not only ensure that the iPhone cannot take photos but also guarantee the device's complete security in every respect.
