The Perplexity AI browser is launched. This is how to give it a go
The Perplexity team has been developing its own AI-powered web browser for a while. The company wants to invest in Comet, a substitute for Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, and Mozilla Firefox, because it isn't satisfied with simply having a clever search engine. A Windows version is now available for testing, but only a limited number of users will be able to do so at this time, CEO Aravind Srinivas recently announced.
Our internet search habits are evolving. The creation of tools utilizing artificial intelligence has expanded since its inception, especially after ChatGPT-3 was released in 2022. Perplexity AI is one of the most well-known companies. It is well-known for its conversational search engine, which is based on OpenAI's GPT-3.5 model. Other LLM programs include GPT-4, Claude 3, Mistral Large, and others.
According to statistics published by AI Mojo, Perplexity AI has over 10 million monthly active users, and by 2023, it will reach over 500 million queries. However, they don't want to limit themselves to a search engine that competes with Google or Bing; they also want to expand into web browsers. We've known this for months, but finally, a limited group of people will be able to start using the browser on Windows computers.
Several users have expressed interest in joining the selected user group. To join the waitlist, users must provide their email address in the Comet section of the Perplexity website. If selected, the brand will send them an email with instructions on how to download the AI-powered web browser.
Perplexity AI's CEO commented on the TBPN podcast in April that the browser would collect data. As he explained, the AI could track user activity "even outside the app" to better understand users and further personalize results. This sparked a major uproar, with many claiming it was a complete violation of consumer privacy.
