WhatsApp feature that lets you try out new features before anyone else
For months, WhatsApp has been trying to make testing its new features less exclusive to those who are fortunate enough to join the beta program. It appears that the company is getting ready for a significant change: an internal feature that will enable some users to activate the beta version straight from WhatsApp without waiting for spots in the test program to become available or depending on Google Play.
The guide comes from WhatsApp version 2.25.35.5 for Android, which was recently released as part of the beta program on Google Play, according to the specialized news site WaBetaInfo. A tool, already in use and known internally as "Beta Switch," has been found within the code and is expected to make a paradigm shift for those who always want to stay ahead of stable updates.
According to the information contained in this latest update, WhatsApp plans to activate an option that will allow some users of the stable version to move to the beta version more easily and automatically, bypassing the Google Play Store. In other words, enrolling in a traditional beta program won't be necessary. The app will automatically check for a beta update, start downloading in the background, and activate new features immediately.
However, this option will not be available to everyone. Unlike the traditional beta program, which is available to any user as long as there are available spaces, WhatsApp will only leave this option available to a small group of accounts. The criteria the company will use to choose who is allowed into the app are still unknown, but all indications point to the use of filters based on region, device, or type of usage. In short, it won't depend on your application: the app will decide whether or not you're eligible.
If you're lucky, don't worry; this early release won't be a watered-down beta or a superficial preview of new features. The messaging platform has confirmed that it will offer the same experience as users enrolled in the beta program via the Google Play Store: the same version number, the same beta features, and the same bugs that need to be fixed.
Currently, the feature is under development and cannot be enabled on any account. According to the leaked documents, it is advisable to review the app periodically in case of a new update and it suddenly appears on the list. However, one thing is clear: this feature may never be available on your account, as its rollout period will be very limited, and you may not be among the selected users.
