This is how you can find out if your phone company is providing the internet speed you're paying for.

When changing our mobile phone plans, we always focus on internet speed and data allowances provided by our carriers. However, the agreed-upon features may not meet our needs. Therefore, it's advisable to run an internet speed test to ensure it matches what we're paying for, in case we need to make any changes with our service provider.

The easiest way is to take Google's free speed test , which involves transferring about 40 MB of data to check your connection speed. In less than 30 seconds, you can see if your connection matches the speed agreed upon in your contract, and it doesn't collect any personal data.

Another option is  Speedtest , offered by the American company Ookla. This tool allows you to run customized tests based on your device, browser, and operating system, and also provides information about response time (ping). Although it warns users and states that data sharing is legal, it does collect a significant amount of information during the tests.

Finally, and not surprisingly, Netflix has its own speed test called " Fast ," which shows your internet speed, measures loading times, and displays the server location.

How to perform speed tests correctly

To perform speed tests, your computer or tablet must be connected to the router using a cable to avoid data loss. However, with a mobile app, you can accurately measure the available bandwidth in every room of your home.

Once the tests are completed, you can either file a complaint with the company or return to watching movies or TV series, playing video games, or working remotely.
