Google wants to get rid of the idea of learning a language and has added a new feature to the Meet app.
Google has added a new feature to Meet, its audio and video calling platform, that could be very helpful for some people.u frequently hold meetings with people from other countries, speaking different languages, you can now take advantage of near-real-time audio translation. This feature will undoubtedly facilitate communication and may be particularly helpful for those who are not fluent in the language.
This feature will be available in iOS and Android apps. The first phase of rollout began on April 8th, and the second phase will begin on April 23rd. The feature aims to translate spoken audio into the language selected by the user during a call.
Google Meet will translate calls.
Currently, this feature is being rolled out gradually and is not available in all languages. We will have to wait until it becomes available in other languages, but it already covers some of the most widely spoken languages globally.
When this feature is enabled, incoming audio is translated almost instantly. Users don't need to switch to another app or use additional tools. Everything is done within Google Meet in a simple way to facilitate communication.
Currently, there are some limitations. One is that only two languages can be enabled in a single meeting. Therefore, three or more people cannot speak in different languages; only these two languages are allowed, and Google Meet will be the only language that can be translated.
Another limitation is that users joining from dedicated meeting devices will be able to hear the translated audio of others, but their own voice will not be translated for the rest of the participants. This is according to the Google blog.
It should be noted that this feature is not currently available to everyone, as it is limited to specific users with certain types of accounts, namely:
Google Workspace Business Standard and Business Plus accounts, and Enterprise Standard and Enterprise Plus accounts.
Workspace Frontline Plus accounts and personal Google accounts shared in Google AI Pro or Google AI Ultra.
It cannot be used with free Google accounts or Workspace Basic subscriptions. This feature is expected to be available for these types of accounts soon, but Google has not yet released an official statement regarding an approximate release date.
In short, Google has taken another step toward providing near-real-time translation during calls, adding a new feature to Meet, albeit only partially available at the moment. It will soon be rolled out to more languages and users.
